November-December 2024
We are coming to the end of yet another year, and this combined November-December issue of Cooperative Living will be the last one for 2024. It has been an exciting year, and we’ve been able to feature families, businesses, recipes and attractions throughout Virginia and Maryland. I want to take a moment to thank the dedicated magazine staff here at VMDAEC who work with your electric cooperative to make sure we continue providing high-quality content for you to enjoy.
Our Cooperative Focus story combines the holiday season with the recognition of a Maryland family farm that was one of the first residences to get hooked up to electricity via Choptank Electric Cooperative.
Read about the VMDAEC Education Scholarship Foundation, which just celebrated giving away $1 million in scholarships. Over 1,000 students have been awarded scholarships since 2003; some of their testimonials are captured in the article. This is not just a testament to the power of education, but also a reflection of the collective achievements of our communities and inspiring future leaders.
We also cover the devastation caused in September and October by Hurricane Helene and the combined effort by our member cooperatives to help those in need. It is truly inspiring to see lineworkers doing whatever it takes to get the lights back on through terrible conditions. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the families affected by the storm.
As we prepare to celebrate a new year, we look forward with hope and optimism. Happy holidays to you and your family.
