Virginia ranks in the top 10 nationally in fresh market tomatoes.

The greatest quantity of tomatoes grown in Virginia is on the Eastern Shore and Northern Neck. Did you know tomatoes are filled with vitamins A and C, as well as calcium and potassium, which make them good for your heart? Tomatoes come in a variety of colors, including red, yellow, pink, purple and green. A tomato is considered a vegetable in the culinary world. But, botanically, it is a fruit because it contains the seed of the plant.
