SEPTEMBER 2022
When I was growing up, September meant summer was ending and we were getting ready to go back to school. Both of my parents were teachers, so we would enjoy a Labor Day vacation together before getting into our routines with classes, playing fall sports and cheering on our favorite football teams that all had a chance to win the championship with the season just starting.
Now that my electric cooperative career has considerably outspanned my school years combined, this time of year brings to mind the heart of hurricane season. While we are constantly preparing for outage situations throughout the year, we keep a watchful eye on potentially strong storms forming in the Atlantic from June 1 to Nov. 30. Our 15 member cooperatives are making sure their inventories are stocked, especially with the supply chain issues that our industry currently faces. We have mutual aid agreements with all our neighboring states to make sure help is available and that we can assist each other in restoring power during prolonged outages.
Providing reliable electricity is the cornerstone of your electric cooperative and the focus of everything we do. We are proud of the fact that even through severe weather, we keep the electricity flowing 99.95 percent of the time.
While I still hold out hope for a championship season for my favorite football team, it is good to know you can count on your local cooperative to be prepared to keep the lights on through this hurricane season and throughout the year.
