Happy New Year
Jan/Feb 2023
It is exciting to start off a new year and think about all the possibilities that are ahead. It is a time we can make resolutions about exercise, eating healthy, clearing out the clutter, volunteering our time, or maybe even going someplace we’ve never been. It’s a chance for a fresh start to a new year and all the opportunities a new beginning can bring.
One area that continues to perpetually evolve in our industry is electric vehicles, a theme in this month’s magazine. This month there is an amazing story that highlights how cooperatives were ahead of the game when it came to electric vehicles. Back in 1975 one of our members, Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative, used one to deliver mail. One of the concerns was making it back, as it could only go a few miles before needing a charge.
It’s amazing how far that technology has come as we contrast that with our cover story about electric 18-wheeler trucks that are being used right now in Southwest Virginia. There continue to be advancements in the range and power of newer electric vehicles.
While we all welcome technological advancements, it is important that we continue to support bringing the funding and charging infrastructure for electric vehicles to all the areas we serve. Your cooperative will always look to find ways to best serve its members while continuing to provide you with reliable electric service.
As we turn the calendar to 2023, we want to wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year. Hopefully, you will do better with your resolutions than I usually do.
